Summer is undoubtedly the best period to visit Portland and Maine's south and mid coast.

Precipitation is moderate all over the year, but the weather becomes harsh and snowy during winter and late autumn.

Portland and the south coast of Maine is often struck by cold spells and severe snowfalls from November to mid-Spring.

WHEN NOT TO GO TO PORTLAND AND THE REGION AROUND

Avoid winter or even November and early/mid spring.

Fall's foliage - as in other sites of New England - causes many thousands of weekenders to flock to the region, so you should avoid these weekends.
