Best Time to Visit Indiana

Indianapolis is by far Indiana’s major city (around 800,000 people). After a deep redevelopment of its downtown area, the Indianapolis of today is an important tourist destination, no more circumscribed to the big car races of Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR Brickyard 400.

BEST TIME TO VISIT INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA

Fall is considered the best time of the the year to visit Indianapolis. Humidity is usually much lower than during summer, and weather tends to be sunny and temperatures agreeable.

Summer is, however, the most popular season to travel to Indianapolis. If you want to witness the city animation at its peak, then Summer is the way to go (in spite of the often high humidity and temperatures).

Indianapolis' winters are often bitterly cold, with some exceptions: there are some relatively mild winters, when tropical air coming from South reaches the region (similarly, some summers can be relatively cool due to the influence of polar currents, or unusually warm due to the Gulf of Mexico air currents).

Spring is a transitional season, with very changeable weather: the transition from cold to hot weather often produces thunderstorms and tornadoes (late May is a very popular period due to the Indianapolis 500).

WHEN NOT TO GO TO INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA

You may want to avoid the winter months, when temperatures can attain very low levels, and occasional snowstorms strike Indiana.

If you want low accommodation rates, then mid and late May isn't a good period (due to the Indianapolis 500 and to car races fans crowds). July and August aren't the best months either (humidity and high temperatures may render these periods very uncomfortable). Accommodation rates can double in the car races periods.
