BEST TIME TO VISIT AND TRAVEL TO WEST VIRGINIA

West Virginia summer is hot and normally humid, while winter and early spring are often very cold.

It's an instable weather, with moderate precipitation all year long and moderate/high snowfalls from mid-November to March.

As expected, West Virginia's valleys have less colder winters than higher sites. In the central parts of West Virginia and in the more mountainous areas, winters are colder and snowfalls attain higher levels.

Northern Virginia's weather is very similar to that of Washington. See Best time to visit Washington.

Considering the weather issue only, the best time to visit West Virginia would be mid and late spring - May, June – or late-summer and autumn (fall's foliage in the West Virginia's mountains rivals those of New England).

WHEN NOT TO GO TO WEST VIRGINIA

Humidity and high temperatures may turn July and August into very uncomfortable months in many places of West Virginia.

Unless you want to enjoy outdoor winter sports, winter is a period you should want to avoid.

For details about West Virginia weather, see the table below. For Northern Virginia's weather, and considering the similitude with the Washington's one, see Best time to visit Washington.
